Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between ready-made frames and custom framing?

Ready-made frames are the standard frames offered at fixed sizes at most home-décor and retail art suppliers. While sufficient for quick jobs and diy-projects, there are still limits to both aesthetics and protective properties when it comes to ready-made. This is where your professional friends at Rothwell come in handy! With near limitless room for customization, our professionals have a keen eye for detail and are able to provide creative advice you may not have even realized affects the final product. But most importantly, our biggest priority is ensuring that your personal pieces last you for generations down the line. From acid and lignin free mats to avoid corroding artwork to UV-filtering glass to avoid sun-damage, all our materials are tailored to keep your belongings at the same (or even better!) condition than what you left with us.

Can I try custom framing myself?

Here at Rothwell Gallery, we always encourage creative exploration, however, we will warn that custom framing is a difficult, and at times even dangerous, task to tackle without prior experience or the proper tools. With our professionals, we can ensure quality and care put in every step of the way, whether we're colour matching the perfect mats or cutting sheets of glass. Our equipment is all reliably made specifically for framing purposes and our staff is all experienced and trained to operate everything safely. Leave all the heavy lifting to us, and we'll leave you with a final product you're sure to love.

Are there any limitations to custom framing?

Try us! We love a good challenge. Over the years, we've done numerous odd projects, ranging from hand-painted mat-art to 3-dimensional displays. Thanks to the versatile nature of custom framing, there's practically no material, size or shape that can't be worked with. Delicate pastels prone to smudging, fabrics, medals, masks and more; we have worked with them all. If you have a creative problem, we have the creative minds to fix it. Check out our extended gallery and Before & After tabs for a taste of what we can do.

Am I able to purchase only a frame?

Sometimes, all you need is a frame. While we do not hold ready-mades on site, we are able to provide frames by order and hold them until you're ready to pick them up.

Can I bring in my own frame?

Yes! We accept personal frames. No matter the wear, tear, or any more significant damage, we'll be glad to do any reparations necessary to ensure your frame is fit for your artwork.

Can I call in or email for a price quote?

Just as each piece is unique, so is every framing job. While we wish it were that simple, we unfortunately are not able to provide price quotes until after having a consultation, all of which are free of charge. Both quality and full transparency are important to us at Rothwell; if our price after consultation isn't within your budget, we will try to work out alternatives together, or see you another time!

How do I book an appointment?

You're welcome to drop by with your pieces anytime during business hours, or shoot us an email and we'll set a date. Consultations are all in person and free of charge, ending only when you're happy with the plan. No previous custom framing knowledge required, we're happy to guide you through the process and answer any questions you may have.
