Hailing from the Maritimes, now living in Ottawa, Roanne Thomas is an artist, health researcher and professor who employs creative practices in all outlets of her life. With a specialty in mixed media collages, she sees beauty in the mundane and utilizes found objects to create pieces rich in both texture and visual storytelling.
"The things I create are all about memory, nostalgia, and reflection. They are reminders of everyday moments that we tend to take for granted. I am drawn to things that have been discarded or that are not typically considered beautiful ~ reclaimed wood, rusty objects, recycled papers...I also love the contrast between ephemera and more delicate Japanese papers. It's all about playing with texture and layers!"
